South Gate Esports Team
South Gate's Esports Team was formed in the Fall of 2023. Meetings/practices are on Wednesday or Thursday, depending on the game. Join our Remind (text @74c7eg to 81010 for more information and to keep up with events!).
We want our students to be engaged in school and learn about the various career possibilities within the Esports realm.

Empowering through play, our esports program fosters teamwork and inclusivity among diverse participants, filling a critical gap in the gaming community.
Why Esports?
South Gate HS wanted to create an esports program to create an inclusive space for fostering teamwork and collaboration. Our team recognized the already established interest in gaming, but also noticed a gap in programs that prioritize diversity and camaraderie. To ensure we were servicing our students' needs, we surveyed potential participants and asked questions of other gaming communities to identify ideas where improvement was needed.
Our decision to address inclusivitiy and team-building was solidified by the evidence of under-representation and the positive impact that inclusive environments can have on individual growth and community dynamics. Although we started with a small team this year, we plan to expand as we aim to create a welcoming and supportive landscape for all.
