Outcome Report

Process:

Throughout the year, our team maintained a consistent schedule of meetings and practice sessions to plan and execute our project effectively. We met bi-weekly to discuss progress, address challenges, and strategize for upcoming events. These meetings provided a structured platform for brainstorming ideas, setting goals, and assigning tasks to team members. Additionally, we dedicated time after school to practice and refine our skills, ensuring that we were well-prepared for competitions and events. Below is the schedule we followed for the second semester.

Team Events:

Aside from the weekly meetings and practices, our team also participated in team-building activities such as field trips to the UCI Esports lab, university tours and most recently, our TeamUp Challenge at UCI. During this challenge, our students worked in teams of 4 to create, design and pitch a pizza creation to a team of judges. This opportunity allowed our team members to experience working together in a setting outside of school and students work creatively and cooperatively towards a common goal. This was a very unique and eye-opening experience. We saw many positive qualities shine in our students. Pictured below is the winning team from that challenge, they had the most creative sales pitch and best tasting pizza.

Final Budget Summary:

Our budget was used entirely to purchase games for our students. Currently district funding does not allow us to purchase game cartridges and without funding from GirlsBuild we were stuck trying to purchase these items on our own. The breakdown is below:

8 copies of Mario Kart for Nintendo Switch: $50 each= $400

8 copies of Super Smash Bros for Nintendo Switch: $50 each= $400

4 copies of Apex. for Nintendo Switch: $50 each= $200

Reflection:

Our long-term outcomes aim to create a lasting culture of acceptance and collaboration within the gaming community. We envision increased diversity, strengthened relationships, and a more inclusive gaming environment. Looking back, we're proud of the progress we've made and the positive impact we've had on our community. However, we recognize the need for ongoing efforts to address systemic issues and ensure sustained change. If we had to do it all over again, we would focus more on targeted outreach and partnership development to reach a broader audience. We look forward to continuing our efforts and expanding our outreach to more students next year.
